Château de Voré

Château de Voré is an 18th-century castle in Rémalard en Perche built with two projecting wings at each end and a gate featuring intertwined initials. The estate is surrounded by outbuildings and preserves its original walls, roofing, and courtyard of honor.

The castle was built in the 18th century following designs by Hardouin-Mansart and replaced a medieval fortress with its mound and moats. It later became a residence for notable figures of the period.

The place takes its name from the nearby Voré river and was once a significant estate in the region. The rooms reflect how wealthy families lived in the 18th century and their daily routines.

The estate is situated on private grounds and can be viewed from outside, allowing visitors to admire the architecture from the courtyard and surrounding buildings. Visitors should allow time to observe the exterior details and surrounding landscape carefully.

Philosopher Claude-Adrien Helvétius purchased the estate in 1749 and turned it into a meeting place for Enlightenment thinkers. Paintings by Jean-Baptiste Oudry that once decorated its rooms now hang in the Louvre, demonstrating the significance this place held in French art history.
