The riverbanks were transformed into a public park in 2013 after decades of being occupied by a highway that separated the river from the city. This major change returned the Seine's edge to public use and recreation.

The area features thousands of newly planted trees and shrubs that create a green corridor running through central Paris. This vegetation was deliberately added to transform what was once all pavement into a genuine living landscape.
