Couvent Notre-Dame-de-Fidélité de Douvres-la-Délivrande, convent located in Calvados, in France

The Couvent Notre-Dame-de-Fidélité is a convent building in Douvres-la-Délivrande constructed with thick stone walls and simple rooms designed for religious life. The building displays several construction phases from the 19th and 20th centuries while maintaining its original structure and modest character.

The congregation was founded on 26 February 1831 by Henriette Le Forestier d'Osseville, known as Mother Sainte-Marie, as a boarding school for girls and an orphanage, in thanks for the healing of Count Théodose Le Forestier d'Osseville's youngest daughter. The nuns settled in an early 18th-century building on the Bout Varin property, and neo-classical buildings were added from the 1830s. The chapel was enlarged from 1866 but only used in 1929, its choir unfinished; it was listed as a monument historique on 14 November 2007.

The congregation was founded on 26 February 1831 by Henriette Le Forestier d'Osseville, Mother Sainte-Marie, as a boarding school and orphanage, in thanks for the healing of Count Théodose d'Osseville's youngest daughter at the Douvres sanctuary. In 1930 René Lalique supplied a glass crucifix, altarpiece, tabernacle, communion table and choir windows; Alix Aymé added a lacquer Stations of the Cross in 1948, with a 15th station by Isabelle Emmerique in 2014.

Visitors can view the building's exterior from Rue du Bout-Varin, where it sits in a residential area with both older and newer homes. The location offers a quiet walk and allows you to observe the historic architecture within its everyday surroundings.

The chapel's glass altar, cross, tabernacle, lamp and choir windows were made by René Lalique from 1930 to 1933, after a commission for the congregation's centenary; the sum he asked the sisters was minimal. The ensemble is described as Lalique's largest architectural work. The altar front carries the inscription "SAINTE CROIX".
