Manddale, Mountain summit in Bera, Spain and Biriatou, France
Manddale is a mountain summit on the border between Spain and France in the Pyrenees, rising to 573 meters above sea level. The terrain is crossed by marked trails that give hikers access to several viewpoints along the way.
The mountain paths of Manddale connect to ancient trade routes that linked Spanish and French Basque communities for centuries. These ways played an important role in cultural and economic exchange between the two regions.
Local shepherds still practice traditional grazing on these slopes, where Pottok horses roam freely across the border between France and Spain.
The hiking route begins at Col d'Ibardin and features a well-marked path with several elevation changes during the walk. Visitors are advised to bring proper hiking shoes and weather protection, as conditions on the open ridge can change quickly.
From the summit you can see both the Atlantic coast and Xoldokogaina lake, with granite formations visible near Fagalegi pass. This mix of ocean and alpine views makes the summit an unexpected place to see both landscapes at once.
