Site antique de Drevant

The ancient site of Drevant is an expansive archaeological complex with an amphitheater, a religious sanctuary with temple buildings, and multiple bathing facilities scattered across the landscape. The scattered remains reveal the size and organization of this Roman town.

The site originated during the reign of Emperor Augustus and underwent continuous expansion over several centuries. Eventually it was abandoned, which allowed the remains to survive beneath the earth until modern excavations.

The ancient theater served as a gathering place where locals came to watch performances and celebrate together. It reveals how central public entertainment was to daily life in this Roman settlement.

The site sits on the right bank of the Cher River in gently rolling terrain and is accessible for walking exploration. Wear sturdy shoes as the ground is uneven and portions of the site remain open to the elements.

Excavations uncovered residential neighborhoods with different types of houses, from modest homes to inns for traveling visitors. These discoveries reveal how diverse the people living here were.
