Cabane Vauban

Cabane Vauban is a small defensive structure positioned on coastal cliffs approximately 80 meters above sea level, offering direct views across the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel. The building sits along a hiking trail and allows visitors to overlook both the coastline and the surrounding landscape.

This structure was built in the early 1700s as part of a network of military posts designed to protect the coast from invaders. Soldiers used fire and smoke signals to communicate warnings about approaching enemy vessels to neighboring positions.

The site forms part of the GR 223 hiking network, connecting multiple historical military posts along the Normandy coast. Today it serves as a landmark for visitors exploring this region's defensive heritage on foot.

The site is accessible via a hiking trail approximately 5 kilometers from Carolles, with moderate elevation changes throughout the walk. Sturdy footwear and plenty of time are recommended for this coastal route.

From September through December, migrating birds pass through this coastal region in significant numbers, making the site an excellent observation point. Species such as the Dartford warbler and firecrest are regularly observed here.
