The Lac de Puyvalador is a reservoir in the Capcir area of the French Pyrénées, close to the village of Puyvalador. It sits among rocky slopes and pine-covered hillsides, and is fed by a dam that also supports local energy production.
The lake was created as a reservoir to store water and generate electricity for the surrounding area. Over time it became a place for outdoor recreation, drawing hikers, anglers, and families from nearby villages.
A marked loop trail starts from the village of Réal and goes around the lake, making it a good option for families and casual walkers. In winter the lake can freeze and snow covers the surrounding area, so conditions change significantly with the season.
The trail around the lake passes old stone bridges known locally as the Ponts romains du Galbe, which were part of the historic routes through this mountain area. A short distance away, traces of a former fortress on the surrounding hills are still visible to those who look carefully.
