Château de Bussière, Medieval castle in Loches, France
Château de Bussière is a castle in Loches with a main residential building oriented north to south and two wings extending westward that enclose a central courtyard. An octagonal tower connects the different sections and houses the interior staircase serving the upper levels.
The castle was built in the 13th century and underwent major renovations over the following centuries. Substantial changes were made during the 16th and 19th centuries, with the facades and roofs officially protected as a historical monument in 1975.
From 1980 to 2000, the castle belonged to French entertainment figures Jean-Jacques Debout and Chantal Goya, followed by former Miss France Chantal Bouvier de Lamotte.
The castle is privately owned and can only be viewed from the exterior, so plan to walk around the perimeter to see all its sides. The best views are available from the public paths surrounding the property where the architecture is clearly visible.
An octagonal tower situated between the main building and the south wing contains the staircase leading to the upper floors of the castle.
