Tour de Montcuq, Medieval fortified tower in Montcuq-en-Quercy-Blanc, France
This rectangular tower stands 24 meters tall on a rocky outcrop and contains four rooms connected by a spiral staircase with 99 steps.
Built between the 12th and 13th centuries, the tower served as residence for the lords of Montcuq before becoming a symbol of royal power in 1274.
The tower rooms host a permanent exhibition about the medieval history of Montcuq and a section dedicated to singer Nino Ferrer.
Entrance fees are 5 euros for adults, with reduced rates of 2.50 euros for students, pilgrims, and local residents.
The roof terrace provides views over the Petite Barguelonne valley, which served as a major trade and communication route during medieval times.
