Viaduc de Lanespède, Railway viaduct in Lanespède, France

The Lanespède Viaduct stretches across 200 meters with 20 arches and reaches a height of 35 meters above the Lène stream and A64 motorway.

Construction of the viaduct began on May 8, 1865, and concluded on April 1, 1867, with Emperor Napoleon III crossing it on the first train in 1869.

The structure required 11,000 cubic meters of bricks manufactured in Orignac, transported by ox-drawn carts through the Hautes-Pyrénées countryside.

The viaduct serves as a crucial railway connection between Toulouse and Bayonne, spanning across the municipalities of Lanespède, Bégole, and Péré.

The construction period proceeded without any major accidents, while a square house at the base served as an office for 12 accountants until 1899.
