Château de Gray, Medieval castle in Gray, France.

Château de Gray is a castle in France with rough stone walls, vaulted underground spaces, and a distinctive entrance tower called Tour du Paravis topped with a wooden barrel vault. The structure also displays later features, including marble fireplaces and carved woodwork throughout its interior rooms.

The castle was built in the 13th century and suffered fire damage in 1324. Reconstruction followed a year later under Jean Moingin's direction, introducing new interior features and strengthening the structure.

The building houses the Baron Martin Museum, presenting artworks and artifacts that shape its role as a place for viewing collections across centuries. Visitors can notice decorative elements like marble fireplaces and carved woodwork that reflect this cultural use today.

The site is accessible on foot and offers both open viewing and guided tours to visitors. Summer months bring rotating exhibitions, so booking in advance for tours is advisable.

The interior retains pegged parquet floors and a dedicated Hall of Mirrors from when it was transformed into a residence for leisure. These decorative elements offer insight into how such spaces were lived in centuries ago.
