Château de Beaurepaire, Medieval castle in Beaurepaire, France.
Château de Beaurepaire is a castle in Beaurepaire made up of two perpendicular wings topped by pointed roof towers and encircled by water-filled moats. The entire structure sits on a fortified platform accessed through gates in its outer walls.
Construction of the kitchen wing began in 1425 after regional conflict damaged the site, commissioned by Mauroy de Saint-Ligier to rebuild the estate. Later additions and modifications extended the complex, with architectural changes reflecting different periods of occupation and defense strategies.
The central portal, formerly equipped with a drawbridge, and the mullioned windows demonstrate 16th-century defensive architecture.
Most areas remain private property, so exterior exploration is the best way to appreciate the site without trespassing. The fortified platform offers good views of the towers and moats from accessible approaches around the perimeter.
An octagonal tower on the western facade dates from 1577 but was not connected to the main building until 1901 through a dedicated extension. This long separation followed by a modern link reveals how the fortress adapted to changing needs across centuries.
