Château de la Motte, Historical castle in Acqueville, France
Château de la Motte is a castle in Louis XIII style in Normandy with a central building and two side wings. Classical facades are surrounded by a protective moat that encircles the entire property.
Nicolas de Grimoult commissioned the castle between 1598 and 1614. Extensive remodeling in 1694 significantly changed its appearance.
The castle reflects early 17th-century architectural design with details that show the tastes of its time. Its layout combines building traditions in a form that remains visible to this day.
The castle sits roughly one kilometer southwest of Cesny-les-Sources village and remains private property. Public visits are not permitted.
The property includes several protected outbuildings such as a chapel, an entrance pavilion, and a dovecote. An honor courtyard with sphinxes adds to this unusual ensemble of structures.
