Château d'Avauges

Château d'Avauges blends medieval architecture in its western section with modifications made during the 1700s. The northern facade and overall structure clearly show these different building phases.

The Albon family acquired the property in 1555 and began constructing a new residence in the late 1500s. The structure later underwent significant renovation work over subsequent centuries.

The on-site chapel displays Empire-style decorations and dates to the early 18th century. The interior rooms retain period woodwork in the neoclassical style that visitors can see today.

The castle sits along the Route d'Avauges and opens its grounds to visitors on specific days each year. Check ahead about current opening times and whether guided tours are available.

The park grounds were designed in 1880 and feature an intricate water and lock system drawing from the nearby Turdine River. This engineering solution supplied water to the estate through a carefully planned layout.
