Château de l'Isle-Marie, Medieval fortress in Picauville, France.

The castle stands at the confluence of the Ouve and Merderet rivers, featuring circular towers and a rectangular main building from the 17th century.

The first fortification on this site, documented in 1026 under the name Holmur, served as a strategic point on an ancient medieval route.

The castle inspired writer Barbey d'Aurevilly, who used it as the setting for his 1884 novel 'Ce qui ne meurt pas'.

The castle now functions as a lodging establishment, offering one suite, five bedrooms, two apartments, and a studio for visitors.

The property contains defensive structures in a five-pointed star formation, attributed to military engineer Vauban's fortification designs.
