Porte Maubec is a stone city gate in La Rochelle, France, built between 1590 and 1611 as part of the city's defensive walls, and found on Rue Saint-Louis. The gate features a solid arched passage and a small tower above it.
The gate was built between 1590 and 1611 to extend La Rochelle's walls to include new parts of the city. It survived the siege of 1627 to 1628 and was later used as a storehouse before being listed as a historical monument in 1999.
The gate sits on Rue Saint-Louis in the old part of La Rochelle and is easy to reach on foot from the city center. Walking around the surrounding streets gives the best view of the stonework from different angles.
The gate once had a drawbridge and a portcullis, though no trace of them remains today. In the 19th century, it was repurposed as a storage space for the nearby Saint-Louis hospital.
