Château de Campagnac

Château de Campagnac is a medieval castle in Sarlat-la-Canéda with two main residential buildings connected by a distinctive southern tower. This polygonal structure features machicolations that define the property's defensive character.

The Plamon family built this castle in the 13th century, and English troops captured it in 1348 during the Hundred Years War. This occupation marked a turning point in the property's history.

The Roux family and later the d'Azbacs shaped this castle through their occupation and left their mark on its architecture. Their influence is visible in the different building styles that developed over the centuries.

The property spans 40 hectares and has been owned by the municipality since 1980, making it accessible to visitors. Walking trails crisscross the grounds, allowing you to explore the registered monument within its natural setting.

The south tower preserves a spiral staircase with a rotating barrel vault supported by double arches resting on prismatic consoles. This architectural detail is a rare feature that captures the attention of specialists and curious visitors alike.
