Château de Puymartin

Château de Puymartin is a fortified structure between Sarlat and Les Eyzies with four stone corner towers. The buildings blend military and residential architecture from different periods.

In 1357 during the Hundred Years War, English forces captured the castle. The consuls of Sarlat later purchased it but eventually abandoned the property.

The castle displays period furniture and tapestries that reflect how wealthy families lived across different eras. The rooms with their painted ceilings offer insight into the daily life of former residents.

The courtyard offers wooden games for children such as Dutch billiards and giant marble runs. These activities help families spend time outdoors while exploring the grounds.

The northwest tower contains a room dedicated to Therese de Saint-Clar, a woman held captive there for many years. Her story is linked to ghost accounts that intrigue visitors exploring the site.
