Chalet Reynard, Mountain hut on Mont Ventoux, France.
Chalet Reynard is a mountain hut on the southern slope of Mont Ventoux in the Vaucluse department, serving as a restaurant and rest stop for visitors year-round. In winter it acts as the base for a small ski area with several runs, while in summer it draws hikers and cyclists heading toward the summit.
Pierre de Champeville founded this mountain station in February 1927, making it one of the earliest organized sport facilities on Mont Ventoux. Over the following decades it gradually expanded its activities to cover the summer season as well, evolving from a winter-only stop into a year-round destination.
Chalet Reynard sits at the dividing line between the forested southern side of Mont Ventoux and the bare rocky upper slopes, which makes it a natural stopping point. Cyclists riding up from Bédoin or Sault often pause here to rest before tackling the exposed final stretch to the summit.
The hut is reachable year-round by road from both Bédoin via RD 974 and Sault via RD 164, though road conditions in winter can vary greatly depending on the weather. It is worth checking conditions before setting out, especially if snow or strong winds are forecast, as the upper slopes are exposed.
Chalet Reynard has a pump track on site, which is an unusual feature for a mountain rest stop of this type. The track is designed for cyclists who want to practice rhythm riding on a closed circuit without needing to head out onto the open slopes.
