Villa Coëtihuel, Historic villa in Sarzeau, France
Villa Coëtihuel is a residence in Sarzeau featuring an asymmetrical north-facing side with decorative flamed stoneware and carved stone details. The building combines different architectural styles, creating a varied appearance with textured walls and embellished surfaces throughout.
The residence was designed in 1908 by architect Paul-Joseph Courcoux for Mr. Roussin-Harrington. It replaced an earlier manor from the 16th century on the same land and received official monument status in 2006.
The interior showcases collaborative works between ceramist Alexandre Bigot and sculptor Le Bourgeois that represent early 20th-century French decorative craftsmanship. These handcrafted details appear throughout the rooms and ornaments, reflecting the skill and artistry valued during that era.
The property has been privately owned by the Massiet du Biest family since 1935 with limited public access. The exterior can be viewed from the street, though interior visits are restricted or unavailable.
A two-story central hall forms the core of the interior layout, creating the heart of the home's design. An arcade gallery extends from this hall, providing passage to the upper-floor bedrooms and linking different sections of the residence.
