Viaduct of Anthéor, Railway viaduct in Saint-Raphaël, France

The Anthéor Viaduct spans a deep coastal ravine with nine stone arches extending across 123 meters in length along the Mediterranean coast.

Built between 1860 and 1862 by engineer Bardal, the viaduct endured eleven destruction attempts during World War II before its partial demolition.

The structure forms an integral part of the railway line connecting Toulon to Nice, crossing through the distinctive landscape of the French Riviera.

The viaduct rises 30 meters above the Corniche d'Or, the coastal road linking Saint-Raphaël to Mandelieu-la-Napoule through the Esterel massif.

A commemorative plaque on the third pillar marks the landing site of the First Battalion of the 141st Regiment of the 36th US Infantry Division.
