Château de Bligny, 15th-century wine estate in Bligny, France
The Château de Bligny is a 15th-century wine estate in the Champagne region that features multiple vineyard parcels planted with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. The property includes the main residence, farm buildings, and cellar facilities used for Champagne production.
The Marquis de Dampierre founded this residence in the 15th century, which later became a cornerstone for wine production in the Aube region. The Rapeneau family eventually acquired the property and undertook significant modernization.
The name originates from the Latin term "Bligiacum", reflecting the Gallo-Roman settlement that once stood in this area. Visitors walking through the grounds can still sense this ancient connection in the landscape and building design.
The estate is located in Bligny and accessible by road, with parking available for visitors. The best time to visit is during the growing season from May through October, when vineyard activity is at its peak.
This is the only producer in Champagne that holds the title of Château while growing its own grapes and making its own Champagne. This rare combination of ownership and independent production sets it apart from most other houses in the region.
