Château La Coste, Contemporary art center and winery in Le Puy-Sainte-Réparade, France
Château La Coste is a winery, art centre, restaurant, hotel and museum in Le Puy-Sainte-Réparade, Provence, spread across 200 hectares of rolling hills. The grounds combine grapevines with permanent artworks and architecture pavilions among oak forests and Mediterranean vegetation.
An Irish property developer purchased the estate in 2002 and transformed it from a traditional winery into a public art destination. The first pavilions and sculptures opened to visitors beginning in 2011.
Artists place their works outdoors among grapevines and olive trees, allowing sculptures and buildings to merge with the landscape. Visitors encounter the installations while walking through the vineyards and experience art under the open sky.
The grounds open daily from 10:00 to 18:00, with guided tours in English running at 10:00, 10:30, and 14:30. Plan at least three hours to explore the sprawling paths between installations.
A pavilion with curved glass walls lets interior spaces visually blend with the vineyards outside, while reflecting pools mirror the surroundings. This architectural structure was designed by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer.

The Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region depicts a land where architecture narrates a thousand years of history between sea and mountains. From the 12th-century Cistercian abbeys to the brutalist experiments of Le Corbusier, this area features an exceptional built heritage shaped by Mediterranean light. You can find fortresses perched on rocky promontories, Romanesque monasteries where Van Gogh depicted his struggles, and contemporary museums that interact with the blue of the Mediterranean. Vineyards contain large-scale sculptures, the perched villages of Luberon display their medieval architecture in light stone, and Belle Époque villas in Cap d'Antibes mark the golden age of the Riviera. Between the limestone cliffs of the Calanques and the alpine valleys carved with prehistoric signs, Provençal architecture follows the contours of the land, capturing shadow and warmth, blending tradition and modernity. From the port of Marseille to the hanging gardens of Èze, each building bears the mark of a region where Cistercian builders, military engineers, visionary artists, and contemporary architects have inscribed their visions in stone, concrete, and landscape.
Aix-en-Provence is a city where history lives in every corner. The Cours Mirabeau, lined with trees and fountains, forms the heart of the town. The old quarter reveals itself through narrow streets, elegant mansions, and bustling markets. The Saint-Sauveur Cathedral and Hôtel de Caumont show architecture from different periods. The city offers many places worth photographing. The Place d'Albertas feels like a hidden gem in the center. The Granet Museum holds works by Cézanne and other artists. Historic fountains like La Rotonde and the Mossy Fountain shape the cityscape. The garden at Pavillon de Vendôme provides a moment of quiet in the middle of it all. Walking through passages like Passage Agard reveals the layers of the city. Beyond the town, more treasures await. Montagne Sainte-Victoire rises over the landscape and inspired many painters. The Plateau de Valensole charms visitors with lavender fields, especially when in bloom. Villages like Saignon and places like Château La Coste show the rich landscape around the city.
