Château La Coste, Contemporary art center and winery in Le Puy-Sainte-Réparade, France
Château La Coste is a winery, art centre, restaurant, hotel and museum in Le Puy-Sainte-Réparade, Provence, spread across 200 hectares of rolling hills. The grounds combine grapevines with permanent artworks and architecture pavilions among oak forests and Mediterranean vegetation.
An Irish property developer purchased the estate in 2002 and transformed it from a traditional winery into a public art destination. The first pavilions and sculptures opened to visitors beginning in 2011.
Artists place their works outdoors among grapevines and olive trees, allowing sculptures and buildings to merge with the landscape. Visitors encounter the installations while walking through the vineyards and experience art under the open sky.
The grounds open daily from 10:00 to 18:00, with guided tours in English running at 10:00, 10:30, and 14:30. Plan at least three hours to explore the sprawling paths between installations.
A pavilion with curved glass walls lets interior spaces visually blend with the vineyards outside, while reflecting pools mirror the surroundings. This architectural structure was designed by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer.
