Pic de l'Oeilly, Alpine summit in Belledonne massif, France.
Pic de l'Oeilly is a mountain in the French Alps standing at 1547 meters (5076 feet) high. From the summit, you can see across the surrounding valleys and the peaks of the Belledonne range.
The mountain lies in an area crossed for centuries by people traveling between valleys through mountain passes. The older trails in the region reflect these long-established connections between communities.
The hiking route around Pic de l'Oeilly crosses through the Luitel Nature Reserve, which protects rare mountain ecosystems and natural heritage sites.
The hike starts from the Luitel Reserve parking area near Séchilienne and covers around 9 kilometers with about 400 meters of elevation gain. The best time to go is from spring through fall when snow is not blocking the trail.
An orientation table at Col de la Madeleine helps hikers identify the surrounding peaks and the Taillefer massif around them. This spot gives walkers a clear sense of the mountain landscape they are exploring.
