Croix de Chamrousse, Mountain summit cross in Chamrousse, France.
Croix de Chamrousse is a mountain summit at 2253 meters (7392 feet) elevation with a large cross at the peak. From here you can see the Oisans Mountains and the Deux Alpes glacier, along with a restaurant and other facilities built on the mountain.
An original wooden cross from the 17th century once stood at this peak, later replaced by a larger monumental cross. This change reflects how the site has been used and marked by people over many centuries.
The cross serves as a meeting point where visitors gather to look out at surrounding peaks and understand the landscape. People use the orientation table to identify mountains and geographical features around them.
You can reach the summit by gondola from Chamrousse 1650 or by hiking trails that start from various points. A mountain restaurant is available for food and drinks, and visibility depends on weather conditions, so check before you go.
A weather station and television transmitter are located at the summit and serve the broader region with data and signals. These modern installations are part of the mountain site but many visitors barely notice them.
