Église Saint-Cast de Saint-Cast-le-Guildo, Gothic Revival church in Saint-Cast-le-Guildo, France

The église Saint-Cast de Saint-Cast-le-Guildo is a Gothic Revival granite church in the town center of Saint-Cast-le-Guildo, in Brittany, France. It follows a cross-shaped plan with a central nave, two side aisles, five bays, and a tower topped by a spire.

The first church on this site was started in 1848 and opened in 1849, though without a tower, which was not finished until 1879. The current building was designed by architect Ernest Le Guérranic starting in 1896 and blessed in 1899.

A stained glass window in the north transept shows the 1758 Battle of Saint-Cast, with Breton troops near a mill and a figure of the Virgin in a chariot surrounded by angels. Inscriptions along the scene let visitors follow the story without any prior knowledge of the event.

The church has been closed to visitors since 2005 due to safety concerns, with restoration work underway and expected to continue until 2027. The granite exterior is clearly visible from the surrounding streets in the town center.

A high-relief escutcheon on the exterior showing the lords of Val is listed as a historic monument on its own. The three bells inside the tower each carry a personal name and inscriptions recording the details of their blessing ceremony.
