Salle Favart is an opera house and theatre in the 2nd arrondissement that seats roughly 1,200 people. The building displays rich ornamentation throughout its Beaux-Arts and Baroque Revival interiors and exterior.
The current building was constructed between 1893 and 1898 by architect Louis Bernier and replaced two earlier theatres destroyed by fires. This third version emerged during a period of urban renewal in the district.
The hall hosted debut performances of major French operas that shaped musical life in the city.
The theatre is located at Place Boïeldieu near Boulevard des Italiens and is easy to find. Richelieu Drouot metro station on lines 8 and 9 is within walking distance.
The building features a hidden iron framework for fire resistance that is concealed behind stone facades to keep its traditional appearance. This innovative safety approach was important for theatres of that era.
