Plage de la Calanca

Calanca beach is a sandy coastal strip in southern Corsica enclosed by steep limestone cliffs that descend toward open water. The cove provides natural shelter and calm conditions with views across the sea toward distant landforms.

A watchtower from the 16th century stands above the shoreline, reflecting the defensive measures needed against pirate raids that targeted Corsica's coasts. Such structures emerged to guard settlements from sea-based attacks.

The name refers to the distinctive cove that frames this location, and it serves as a gathering place where both locals and visitors experience the Mediterranean seaside. The water and surrounding landscape shape how nearby communities connect with the sea.

Access comes through a marked path from the parking area on Route de Porto Pollo, where few facilities exist nearby. Visitors should bring their own supplies and wear sturdy shoes, as the trail can be rocky and uneven.

The position between two headlands creates conditions for watching both sunrise and sunset over water, a rare feature along this coastal region. This orientation makes the location special for photographers and nature enthusiasts.
