Église Saint-Vit de Griesbach

Saint-Vit Church is a religious building featuring a long nave divided into three sections that leads to a square choir tower. The exterior is defined by pink sandstone elements, while rounded arch windows punctuate the walls throughout the structure.

Construction began in 1492 and included a eucharistic cabinet that survives from that period. The building was reconstructed in 1761, a date inscribed on the entrance doors that marks the structure visitors see today.

Catholics and Lutherans have shared this space since 1685 under a simultaneum arrangement, allowing both faiths to worship in the same building. This shared religious use shapes how the interior is organized and experienced by visitors today.

The building is located on Rue Principale and is easily accessible when walking through the village. The pink sandstone exterior makes it simple to spot as you move through Gundershoffen.

The stained glass windows were designed by Ernest Paul Michel Gustave Werlé and display design patterns also found in other Protestant churches throughout the region. This artistic connection links the building to a broader network of religious structures nearby.
