Château de Blanchefort, Medieval castle remains near Rennes-les-Bains, France

The castle sits on a white limestone peak with foundations measuring 7 meters on each side and walls reaching 1.5 meters in thickness.

Built by Visigoths in the 10th century, the fortress belonged to Bernard Aton IV Trencavel in 1125 before Simon de Montfort captured it in 1209.

The castle holds connections to the Cathars and Knights Templar, with local stories suggesting the presence of a gold mine in the surrounding area.

Reaching the castle requires a challenging climb through dense vegetation, as no maintained path leads to the mountaintop ruins.

The entrance to the castle court was accessible only by ladder, with the main door positioned several meters high on a small cliff face.
