Vallée des Saints

Vallée des Saints is a protected natural area near Boudes with red clay formations and natural chimneys rising from the ground, shaping the landscape. The valley displays distinctive geology where these earth structures stand out against the surrounding vegetation and local vineyards.

The region has been inhabited since Roman times, as evidenced by an ancient spring at Bard with a stone basin. This evidence points to continuous human presence in the area across centuries.

The wine producers here have worked the land for generations, creating a landscape shaped by their seasonal routines and traditions. You can see their vineyards integrated into the hillsides as you walk through the area.

A marked trail of about 5.8 kilometers starts at the reception hall in Boudes and leads through the geological formations and local plants. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water, as the path moves through open terrain with limited shade.

The red earth formations were shaped by ancient erosion and weathering patterns unique to this geological pocket. Few visitors realize these structures continue to change slowly as water and wind work on the clay and stone.
