Villa de Tony Garnier

Villa de Tony Garnier is a residential building with three workshops, a central courtyard, and expansive gardens along the Saône. The spaces are designed with openness and flow, featuring wide terraces that extend toward the river.

The building was constructed between 1910 and 1912 as the architect's first private housing project. It lost a significant portion of its area in 1957 when the nearby Quai Paul Sédallian was expanded.

The house shows how work and living could exist together in the early 1900s. The spaces were designed so that craftsmanship and family life could thrive under one roof.

The building sits on the Île Barbe and can be reached from Rue de la Mignonne. It is best explored on foot, as the narrow streets of this neighborhood are difficult to navigate by car.

The interior was personally designed by the architect in 1922 and includes a nymphaeum with decorative water features. These rare details reveal his personal vision of modern living.
