Château de la Coindrie

Château de la Coindrie is a manor featuring both square and cylindrical towers set within a water-filled moat that surrounds the property. The structure displays a blend of geometric forms with gabled roofs and multi-paned windows typical of later regional architecture.

An original fortress stood on the site from the 13th century under the ownership of Pierre Garnier, who served as Mayor of Poitiers. The medieval structure was destroyed in 1794 during the French Revolution, and the current building was constructed in its place.

The property served as a home for the Monnier family over several generations, who held important roles in local governance and community life. Their presence shaped the identity of the surrounding area for decades.

The property is located in Argentonnay within the Deux-Sèvres region and operates as a private residence closed to visitors. The exterior can be viewed from outside the grounds, though access to the interior and buildings is not available.

The current structure was rebuilt in the late 1800s well after the medieval fortress had been destroyed during the Revolution. This later reconstruction makes it a blend of different design influences, creating an unusual architectural character for a location with such ancient roots.
