The memorial stretches 280 meters along the outer wall of Père Lachaise Cemetery, displaying names on dark blue steel plates at 1.3 meters height.
Paris inaugurated this memorial on November 11, 2018, marking the centenary of World War I Armistice, to honor 94,415 deceased and 8,000 missing Parisians.
The names appear chronologically by year of death and alphabetically on successive plates, representing all Parisian districts in a single location.
Visitors can walk along the boulevard de Ménilmontant to read the inscriptions, with a landscaped path providing space for contemplation.
The memorial position between the cemetery and street creates a physical boundary between the realm of the living and the deceased.
