Fort Saint-Thierry

Fort Saint-Thierry is a triangular fortification near Pouillon that was built as a military stronghold and contains multiple building structures. The site spans a large area and displays the typical design of fortifications from that era, with reinforced walls and internal structures.

The fort was built between 1877 and 1880 as part of the regional defense system. During World War I it became a site of intense conflict and changed hands multiple times between warring armies.

The site requires sturdy footwear and caution when exploring, as structures are in ruinous condition and paths wind through woodland. Access is limited and requires patience when navigating the grounds.

After the war, villagers from nearby settlements salvaged stones from the damaged sections to rebuild their homes. This explains the highly fragmented state of the ruins seen today.
