Défilé du Coin de la Roche, Canyon in Les Combes, Grand'Combe-Châteleu, France

The Défilé du Coin de la Roche is a narrow limestone gorge cut by the Doubs near Les Combes, in the commune of Grand'Combe-Châteleu. Vertical rock walls rise on both sides of the valley, and the D437 road between Pontarlier and Morteau runs through it. A footpath follows the gorge, giving walkers close views of the stratified limestone.

The gorge cuts through Jurassic limestone of the Jura massif, eroded over millions of years by the waters of the Doubs valley. The D437 road between Pontarlier and Morteau follows this natural corridor, and the hamlet of Les Combes lies at its mouth in the commune of Grand'Combe-Châteleu.

Natural caves in the area, particularly the Remonot Cave, have served as shelters and places of prayer since the seventh century. Local communities used these spaces as sacred sites throughout generations.

The hiking route spans several kilometers and should be explored with sturdy footwear and plenty of water. The best time to walk is during warmer months when the paths are dry and fully accessible.

Four natural springs flow through this area, with one traditionally believed by locals to have healing powers for eye ailments. This local belief has drawn visitors for generations seeking relief through the water.
