Défilé du Coin de la Roche

The Défilé du Coin de la Roche is a canyon with vertical limestone cliffs running along road D437 between Pontarlier and Morteau. A hiking trail winds through the narrow valley, allowing visitors to explore the geological formations that define this landscape.

The limestone formations of this gorge developed over millions of years through erosion, creating a natural passage that has connected communities in the Doubs region throughout history. People have used this route as a key travel corridor through the mountainous terrain.

Natural caves in the area, particularly the Remonot Cave, have served as shelters and places of prayer since the seventh century. Local communities used these spaces as sacred sites throughout generations.
