Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi, Eastern Orthodox cathedral in Avlabari district, Tbilisi, Georgia
The Holy Trinity Cathedral is an Orthodox place of worship on Elia Hill with a central gold-covered dome surrounded by four smaller domes. The building spans 77 meters in length and 65 meters in width, constructed from natural stone and marble.
Construction began in 1995 following Georgia's independence, commemorating 2000 years of Christianity and 1500 years of Georgian Orthodox Church autonomy. The project represented a significant statement of national identity recovery after Soviet rule.
The cathedral displays Georgian and Byzantine artistic traditions through its wall paintings and iconography. Visitors can observe these religious works across nine chapels dedicated to different saints.
The complex is open to visitors daily and includes the main church, a theological academy, a bell tower, and a monastery. The gardens surrounding the site offer peaceful spaces and views over the city.
The cathedral's treasury houses a handwritten Bible created between 1984 and 2004 by dedicated scribes. This carefully preserved work demonstrates religious devotion during a time of major political upheaval.
