Gori Fortress

The oval-shaped stone fortress features high defensive walls reaching ten meters, multiple gates, and remnants of an ancient water supply tunnel.

Archaeological findings indicate fortification existed in the area since the first century BC, though written records first mention the fortress in the 13th century.

The fortress holds the status of Cultural Monument of National Importance, representing centuries of Georgian military architecture and defensive engineering.

Visitors can reach the fortress by walking up the hill from the Memorial of Georgian War Heroes, located in the center of Gori.

The western section, known as Tskhrakara or Nine-Gates, remains the most preserved part of this ancient stronghold despite numerous conquests and earthquakes.
