Ikorta church, Eastern Orthodox church in Shida Kartli, Georgia
The Ikorta church features a centrally planned, domed rectangular design with a semicircular apse and two entrance portals on the southern and western sides.
The church was constructed in 1101 as part of Ikorta castle complex during the reign of Georgian rulers, with only the citadel and church remaining today.
The interior walls contain fragments of twelfth-century frescoes that reflect the artistic and religious traditions of medieval Georgian Orthodox Christianity.
The church stands at an elevation of 1015 meters and requires a jeep tour to access the location in the mountainous region of Shida Kartli.
A solar clock with twelve sectors for time indication remains preserved within the church structure, representing an exceptional example of medieval timekeeping methods.
