Nokalakevi, Archaeological site and fortress ruins in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Georgia.
The archaeological complex spans 15 hectares, featuring defensive walls, a hilltop citadel, palaces, bathhouses, and an acropolis along the Tekhura River.
The site, known as Archaeopolis during Byzantine times, served as the capital of Egrisi Kingdom from the 4th to 7th centuries before Arab forces conquered it.
Archaeological excavations uncovered numerous Byzantine coins, artifacts, and burial sites that demonstrate extensive trade connections with Mediterranean civilizations.
The site opens daily except Monday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with adult tickets costing 10 GEL and guided tours available for 30 GEL.
Visitors can explore an underground escape tunnel that leads from the fortress directly to the Tekhura riverside through the archaeological complex.
