Liakhvi Strict Nature Reserve

The reserve extends over 120 square kilometers across the southern slope of the Greater Caucasus range, featuring mountains, mixed forests, and river valleys.

The area contains archaeological traces from Neolithic times, including primitive dwellings and the Akhalgori treasure from the 5th century BC.

The Liakhvi gorge holds numerous early Christian structures, including the 5th-century Nikozi basilica and the 14th-century Largvisi fortress complex.

Located at altitudes between 1,200 and 2,300 meters, the reserve experiences 179 frost-free days annually in lower regions and 112 days at higher elevations.

The reserve shelters brown bears, golden eagles, and brown trout, while maintaining diverse forest ecosystems with oak, beech, and hornbeam trees.
