Zackenberg Station, Research station in Northeast Greenland National Park, Greenland
Zackenberg Station features ten buildings containing scientific laboratories, communication equipment, and accommodations near the Wollaston Foreland peninsula at Young Sound.
The research facility began operations in August 1997 following construction that started in 1995, after scientific investigations determined the optimal location near Zackenberg Elv delta.
Scientists from multiple nations conduct research at Zackenberg Station through five main programs: ClimateBasis, GeoBasis, BioBasis, MarineBasis, and GlacioBasis.
The station operates from May to October with capacity for twenty researchers, providing laboratory facilities, accommodation, and satellite communication services.
The research site monitors environmental changes in a location where temperatures can drop below minus 38 degrees Celsius during winter months.
