Admiralty Glacier

Admiralty Glacier, Glacier in Northeast Greenland National Park, Greenland

Admiralty Glacier is a glacier in Northeast Greenland National Park that flows from the Greenland Ice Sheet in an easterly direction. The ice mass terminates at a glacial lake in the Støvdal valley below.

British scientists explored and named this glacier during the 1950s while mapping the Northeast Greenland region. The name honors the Royal Navy's support for the expedition.

Geologists from British expeditions documented the glacier's surrounding cliffs, examining rock formations and recording the presence of blue ice lakes.

Access requires special permits and guided expeditions due to the remote location within the national park's protected boundaries. Plan your visit during the brief Arctic summer season when travel conditions are safest.

The area around the glacier displays different ice coloring, including distinctive blue ice lakes that offer insights into glacier movement. These lakes form from meltwater and reveal how the ice mass continues to shift and change.
