Academy Glacier, Major glacier in Northeast Greenland National Park, Greenland

Academy Glacier is a large ice mass in Northeast Greenland National Park that flows toward Independence Fjord. The glacier dominates the landscape where Navy Cliff stands to the north and Marie Sophie Glacier appears further along the coast.

Robert Peary named the glacier in 1892 during his expedition to northern Greenland, honoring the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia. The naming reflected Peary's practice of commemorating scientific institutions during his Arctic explorations.

The glacier marks the boundary between Peary Land and King Frederick VIII Land, representing a natural division in northern Greenland territory.

Access requires specialized expedition boats or helicopters since the region is extremely remote and isolated. Visitors should prepare for harsh Arctic weather and extreme cold conditions throughout any visit.

The glacier sits in one of the world's most remote and least visited regions where few people ever reach. This isolation keeps the landscape in nearly untouched condition, making it a true wilderness destination.
