Axios-Loudias-Aliakmonas Delta National Park

The park spans 338 square kilometers across multiple rivers and wetlands, featuring the Kalochori Lagoon and the deltas of Axios and Aliakmonas rivers.

The national park, established in 1971, preserves natural habitats along the west coast of Thermaikos Gulf in Central Macedonia.

Local communities maintain traditional practices of mussel cultivation, producing 30,000 tons annually within the protected waters of the national park.

The management office in Halastra operates from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, offering information materials and guidance about the wetland ecosystems.

The park houses one of Greece's largest water buffalo herds, continuing a 2,500-year tradition of agricultural practices in the region.
