Temppeliaukio Church, Rock church in Töölö district, Finland
The Temppeliaukio Church features a circular interior space carved into solid bedrock, topped with a copper dome spanning 24 meters in diameter.
The church construction began in 1968 after two architectural competitions, with the final design by brothers Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen completed in 1969.
The rock walls of the church create natural acoustics that make it a preferred location for musical performances and recordings throughout the year.
The church welcomes visitors daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, offering full wheelchair access through its main entrance on Lutherinkatu street.
Instead of traditional church bells, recorded bell sounds composed by Taneli Kuusisto play through exterior loudspeakers mounted on the church walls.
