Lallukka Artists’ Home, Residential complex for artists in Etu-Töölö, Finland.
Lallukka Artists' Home is a functionalist residential complex in central Helsinki containing 56 apartments, each with dedicated studio or workspace. The units are distributed across multiple floors and integrate private living areas with professional workspaces for various art disciplines.
The building opened in 1933 following the will of Juho and Maria Lallukka, who had specified in 1908 that housing for professional artists should be created. Their intention was eventually realized with the construction of this purpose-built artistic residence.
The building houses visual artists, performers, and composers who share common spaces and gather through the Lallukka Artists' Club. This living arrangement creates an active artistic community where residents naturally encounter each other in the halls and shared facilities.
The building's exterior and architectural details are visible from the street, allowing visitors to appreciate the structure without entering private areas. Professional artists interested in residence can apply to the Juho ja Maria Lallukan taiteilijakotisäätiö foundation by submitting their portfolio and motivation letter.
The building underwent major renovation from 2012 to 2017, carefully preserving the original 1930s interior while updating all technical systems and living spaces. This careful balance kept the historic character alive while making the residence comfortable for contemporary living.
