Spårakoff, Mobile pub tram in Helsinki, Finland
Spårakoff is a mobile pub housed in a red tram that travels through central Helsinki, serving beverages to passengers seated inside the vehicle. The tram accommodates roughly 24 people and features a custom-built counter and small restroom designed to maximize the limited interior space.
The mobile pub opened in 1995 to celebrate the 175th anniversary of Sinebrychoff Brewery, which is why it was numbered 175 instead of its original HM V designation. The tram itself was a standard streetcar model that underwent special renovation to function as a serving venue.
The mobile pub blends public transport culture with casual socializing, creating a relaxed space where visitors mingle while moving through the city. People often chat with strangers during the ride, making it a social experience beyond just drinking and sightseeing.
The tram departs from Mikonkatu 17 during summer months, with each tour lasting roughly 40 minutes. Booking ahead is wise given the limited capacity, and comfortable shoes help when boarding and moving around the confined space.
The original streetcar number 15 underwent complete renovation, with every inch optimized for the counter, seating, and restroom. Converting a standard tram into a working bar required creative engineering solutions to fit a functioning pub into a vehicle just over 7 feet (2.3 meters) wide.
