The Imatrankoski Rapids form a section of the Vuoksa River system, with waters flowing through a natural channel carved in bedrock.
The rapids emerged 5000 years ago when melting glaciers caused the land to rise, creating a break in the Salpauselkä ridge formation.
The rapids show includes musical performances featuring compositions by Finnish artists, including works from Jean Sibelius during summer presentations.
Visitors can observe the rapids from multiple vantage points, including the bridge, Koskipuisto beach area, and the Valtionhotelli observation deck.
The controlled water release creates a 16-minute display with flows reaching 400 cubic meters per second when the floodgates open.
