RIISA – Orthodox Church Museum of Finland

The museum maintains a collection of 800 icons and 4000 textile objects representing Orthodox Christian heritage from different periods and styles.

Established in 1957, the museum originated from the Collection of Ancient Objects founded at the Valamo Monastery in 1911.

The collection includes artifacts from Karelian Orthodox parishes and monasteries, relocated during World War II when regions were annexed by Soviet Union.

Located at Karjalankatu 1 in Kuopio, the museum presents permanent exhibitions and seasonal displays focusing on Eastern Christian Church art.

Among the treasures are Georgian-Byzantine gilded enamel miniatures from the 12th century and items that belonged to Saint Arseny of Konevsky.
